GARCIA FAURA helps to fight children’s cancer
The company has signed up to the Gavà local police “Escudos Solidarios” (“Badges of Solidarity”) campaign, within the initiative framework of several local police constabularies in Catalonia to raise funds for the fight against childhood cancer, formed at the Sant Joan de Déu hospital in Barcelona.
These badges of solidarity will be adorned with a yellow-edged ribbon (colour symbolising the fight against childhood cancer) with the motto #pelsvalents (#paralosvalientes). The initiative was devised by the Local Police of Caldes de Malavella and has been extended to other local bodies, also to those of Baix Llobregat, such as Gavà, Viladecans, Castelldefels, Begues, Corbera and Sant Boi, to name a few. Effectively, GARCIA FAURA became a point of sale for the badges, promoting awareness of the campaign among our colleagues, with the aim of contributing to the total amount raised by the campaign. The four euros that price of the shield badge (which is embroidered and irons on to clothing easily) are allocated to the Sant Joan de Déu hospital for the financing of a Paediatric Cancer Centre, a children’s oncology unit for which construction works should progress throughout this year. The project, which costs €30 million, will result in the largest paediatric oncology centre in Europe.
The Sant Joan de Déu hospital still needs to raise half of the money to make this unit a reality. It will have 40 rooms and capacity to serve 400 families each year, in addition to being completely adapted to the needs of child patients. For this reason, the hospital is seeking financing by means of charity initiatives such as those of the local police forces.
