The new Mercado del Guinardó is part of a large array of installations that defines a new space for meetings and services available to the citizens of this Barcelona neighbourhood. The new market hall retains part of the iconic tower from the previous building, which serves as a visual identification of the site. Along with the renovation, the shopping facilities have been adapted, so that the shopping area is shared by approximately fifteen units occupying an area of about 2,000 m2, and a self-service area managed by the Carrefour chain. The main access has been developed with the new open square covering almost 2,000 m2 between the market and el pasaje de Llívia, which provides direct access to the floor housing the non-food product units.
The majority of the works carried out by GARCIA FAURA for this project consisted in the fabrication and installation of more than 1,000 m2 of aluminium enclosures with thermal bridge break. Some enclosures are finished in anodised matt black, a visual identifier for this project. The vacuum glazing has a selective coating to reduce solar incidence. The project required the enclosures to be designed individually, since each of them required a reinforcement solution uprights or crossmembers, depending on the surfaces and wind stresses.
