The Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya’s new Diagonal-Besòs campus, specialising in industrial engineering, is destined to become the new educational hub of Spain. The space spans almost 150,000 m2 and is set to become a melting pot for the educational, development and research communities, through the location of various UPC teaching, research and facilities buildings of the UPC, the Energy Research Institute of Catalonia, a university residence, and more.
GARCIA FAURA has been working until now on the so-called Building A, which is to be used for a combination of teaching, research and university services. The project, brainchild of the architect José Antonio Martínez Lapeña, and with a buildable space of 20,000 m2, combines different elevations up to a maximum of 10 floors plus the roof. The company’s work has been centred around the manufacture and installation of 10,000 m2 of aluminium and glass enclosures, both opening and sliding according to the application and requirements of each space. The set of doors and windows throughout the building, in an anodised matt silver finish, is fabricated from aluminium profiles with thermal bridge break and high technical performance glass.
